CONFERENCE INFORMATION
The Alabama Newborn Screening Conference will be held September 22, 2023, at the Montgomery Marriott Prattville Hotel & Conference Center at Capitol Hill. This one-day conference will be held from 8:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Registration will open, and a Continental breakfast will be served beginning at 7:15 a.m.
The registration fee covers all materials and sessions as well as conference meals Continental breakfast, refreshments, and lunch). The early registration deadline is July 31, 2023. The last day to register is August 31, 2023.
Contact hours for nurses and social workers have been requested. Approval is pending.

TARGET AUDIENCE
The 2023 Newborn Screening Conference will target nurses, social workers, lab technicians, audiologists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals who are interested in the health and well-being of newborns across Alabama.

OBJECTIVES
At the end of this conference, the participant should be able to:
1) Describe lysosomal storage disorders (Pompe/MPS-I) and associated signs and symptoms
2) Recognize how families are affected when their child is diagnosed with an inherited disorder
3) Visualize the steps for processing newborn screening specimens received at the State Health Laboratory
4) Describe best practices in newborn hearing screening and early intervention
5) Discuss three components of the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention system
6) Identify three techniques for proper collection of the newborn screening specimen
7) Acquire knowledge on newborn screening vendor services.

EXHIBITORS
Vendors desiring to exhibit at the conference are welcome. The rates are listed below.
Gold Level ($1,000) - The vendor will receive a prime location.
Silver Level ($800) - The vendor will receive an intermediate location.
Bronze Level ($600) - The vendor will be on the back hallway.

Note: The University of South Alabama will share basic demographic information from the registration form with the Alabama Department of Public Health, the organizer and funder of this event.
