Paul Phillips Paul Phillips is the head instructor and program director of the University of South Alabama’s Safety and Emergency Response Training department. He has been with the program since 2003 and has a wide range of emergency response training and experience. Paul has an associate’s degree in fire science and has been a firefighter since 1998. He is currently employed with the City of Mobile’s Fire Department since 2000 and is a Captain assigned to the Hazardous Materials Unit where he has obtained certification as a Hazmat Technician and a Weapons of Mass Destruction Technician and Incident Safety Officer. He also is an OSHA Outreach instructor and is qualified to teach a variety of safety classes. In addition, he spent 4 years performing search and rescue operations in the United States Coast Guard where he holds a USCG Maritime Captains license. Overhaul, Paul’s combined education, training, and work experience enable him to instruct students to become safety and emergency response professionals.
