Join Kurt Simons for an exploration into China's history, culture, government, military, education and daily life. In this course, Mr. Simons will examine the perceptions versus realities and myths versus truths that make for inherent paradoxes. Look behind the curtain into contradictions and consistencies that make China a fascinating study.

Kermit Simons

Kurt Simons earned an MA from the University of Memphis and an MBA from Pepperdine University and has demonstrated success in education, industry, and the military. A certified master teacher recognized by the Tennessee State Legislature for Excellence in Education, he served as a 21st Century classroom teacher for 30 years, teaching AP courses in Human Geography/Anthropology, Government, Economics and US History.

His interest and specialization in the Far East have been seen over the years. He was awarded two fellowships: The Confucius Institute, a six-week emersion into Chinese culture, and a Fulbright Fellowship, a three-week exploration of China. He has served as guest lecturer of Economics at Hunan University, attended three summer Far East Institutes at various colleges sponsored by the NCA, and made two trips to China while serving as an Officer in the United States Marine Corp. Additional Far East travel includes trips to South Korea, Japan, Viet Nam, and Thailand.
