Legal Research and Writing is an eight-week course designed to give you the skills necessary to competently assist an attorney with legal research and present various forms of legal analysis for the benefit of attorneys, clients, and Courts. As you learn foundational methods of conducting legal research, you will learn the differences between statutory and case law. You will then learn the IRAC method of legal analysis and the proper form of Bluebook legal citations. This class also includes a session at the USA Marx Library which covers online legal research tools and methods on how to access them. After understanding legal research and analysis, you will learn how to prepare the most common legal documents – opinion letters, legal memoranda, legal briefs, and trial briefs.
