Prerequisites

Prior to enrolling in Introduction to Wedding Photography: A Workshop, you must have completed the specified prerequisites (if you have not taken a prerequisite, you can click on the catalog code link to see a list of upcoming course sections):

Camera, Light, Film or Digital II

This course offers an in-depth understanding of camera use, exposure techniques, and composition. The instructor discusses how aperture, shutter speed, light, focal length, depth of field, filters, and artificial light can be used creatively. You will participate in classroom and outdoor sessions where you will learn various functions of your camera. You will have challenges such as photographing moving and still objects with various shutter speeds and taking advantage of natural lighting as it changes. At the end of this course, you will have a deeper trust in your ability to operate your camera in automatic and manual mode. This course is designed to follow Fundamentals of Photography students who would like to learn more or for those pursuing the Photography Certificate. This course is designed to immediately follow Fundamentals of Photography for the Photography Certificate. PREREQUISITE: Fundamentals of Photography

Digital I

Intimidated by the settings on your camera? No need to be! Learn how to use your camera and take control of your images. This introductory photography class is designed for new users and experienced photographers who want to get more out of their photographs. Topics covered include demystifying shutter speed, aperture, ISO, color balance and their effects on the outcome of the image. Exposure, composition, choosing the best resolution and file formats are also covered. Your class will cover what to do after images are taken and discuss selecting the right flash and lens. Sessions include large and small group instruction as well as individualized assistance. By the end of the course you will know how to use the various functions and modes on your particular camera. For insight into the world of photography the class will visit a professional studio for a photo-shoot with models.

Portraits on Location

In this course students will learn how to improvise light modifiers to produce classic black and white and color portraits. Class is taught in the classroom and on location in a hands-on learning style. The instructor will use several do-it-yourself techniques and photography hacks to improve the student's ability to make a quality outdoor photo. Tips on editing in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop will be reviewed as another tool available to enhance and improve images. Students will work together in small groups, utilizing improvised tools to practice outdoor photography techniques in different lighting. Lecture will be kept to a minimum as this course is focused on the techniques needed to produce off camera flash portraits with minimal equipment. Please bring your laptop with Photoshop version 25 (minimum) already loaded.
