Description

In 1703, Mobile hosted the first Mardi Gras Celebration in the Western Hemisphere! The following year, the first Mystic Society was established. In 1830, the first float parade rolled through Mobile. Today, Mobile has 77 Mystic Societies and 37 parades. Come for a lively exploration of the history and tradition of Carnival with Mobile's resident Mardi Gras historian and author. This is the third lecture in this year's USA Gulf Coast Distinguished Lecture Series.
